NeXEO is a secure, next-generation web browser-based system providing Network eXtensible Emergency Operations. It has been designed for extensibility to satisfy both today's and tomorrow's emergency operations needs.

EOC software must be intuitive in order to be effective during emergencies. Our clients have been repeatedly impressed with the fact that new users have been able to login for the first time, and successfully navigate, interact with, and insert data into the system, prior to receiving any training. NeXEO has been designed to not only function in emergency situations but to function on a daily basis. It provides tools and features such as instant messaging, logging, assignments, and status boards that make this an 'everyday' application.

Data Types

  • many categories of data including incidents, issues, external requests, tasks, documents, logs, roles, status boards, shelters, and road closures
  • additional categories of data can be created and customized for a specific installation
  • images, documents, spreadsheets and any other files can be attached to a data item
  • status updates or other comments/notes can be added to any data item, and are automatically time-stamped
  • seamless support for both Operational and Exercise data
  • Spell Checking available on all text field inputs, with a customizable spell check dictionary

Status Boards

  • on-the-fly user-definable status boards
  • a history of changes can be displayed for each board field, or the board can be displayed as it was at any date/time in the past
  • status board fields can be configured for accepting text (including HTML), numbers, dates, date/times, Yes/No/Unknown, links to other system data, and can be grouped into sub-sections
  • status board definitions can be created once and re-used as a template for quickly creating boards of a certain type
  • status board fields are highlighted in shades of yellow to indicate how recently they were updated
  • each user can select the status boards they're interested in monitoring on their 'My Boards' tab. Any changes to these boards will notify the user instantaneously.
  • quickly open all fields for editing by clicking the 'Edit All' button

Log Processing

  • logs can be created for maintaining a history of phone calls, radio communications, or anything else
  • any radio ten-codes (i.e. 10-4) found in a log entry are automatically translated into their english language equivalent
  • log entries can optionally include latitude, longitude, county, and file attachments
  • log entries can be flagged for follow-up, and a special group of users is notified upon insertion of a flagged entry
  • Quick-Entry forms can be added to the top of the page so that log entries can easily be added at any time without losing your place in the system

GIS and Geo-Referenced Data

  • New! NeXEO has added mapping capability from the University of Minnesota Mapserver. Mapserver is used to provide NeXEO with access to raster and vector map data as well as to share geo-referenced NeXEO data points with other applications over the web via OGC Web Feature Service (WFS). Check out the screenshots section to see a couple of new examples.
  • New!With the new Mapserver integration, spatial querying can be done on the map which can query all data provided by mapserver (which includes georeferenced NeXEO data). Mapserver querying is integrated with NeXEO so that users can put the map in query mode, click on the map, and all spatial data will be queried and the results presented in NeXEO.
  • unparalleled geo-spatial awareness of system data with embedded light-weight GIS
  • displays affected counties and locations of existing data, and can be used for quickly selecting affected counties and locations of new data items and alerts
  • displays real-time weather radar overlay with optional variable transparency and animated looping of the last hour
  • displays a site-configurable set of layers, created from industry standard ESRI Shapefiles
  • geo-referenced data can be displayed in Google Maps™ or exported to Google Earth™
  • per-user customization options for the GIS, including the size of the GIS, and enabling of various layers
  • supports GeoServer, which is an OpenGIS Web Feature Server (WFS), and the Deegree WFS

Messaging

Assignments

  • assignments can be made to an individual, a group, an agency, or ESF
  • assignments can include additional textual details and an optional suspense date
  • assigned parties are notified immediately with visual cues and a system-generated instant message
  • a data item can have multiple assignments that mix-and-match the different assignable entities to different aspects of an issue
  • each user can quickly view their own assignments on the 'My Assigned' tab
  • system will send an instant message warning a user that the suspense date of an incompleted assignment is approaching
  • Supervisors are now given the option of Accepting or Rejecting the assignee's completion of an assignment
  • New!Users can choose to have assignment notifications sent to their cell phone or email when not logged into NeXEO

User Management

  • users can be registered as system administrators, supervisors, ordinary users, or view-only users, with a corresponding hierarchy of privileges
  • users can be members of permission groups, roles, agencies, ESFs and EOCs
  • administrators can enable and disable user accounts to tightly control system access
  • users can have their password hint emailed to them if they forget their password
  • see who is currently logged into the system and send them instant messages

National Weather Service Alerts and Radar

  • automatically retrieves weather Watches, Warnings, Advisories, and related Statements from the National Weather Service (NWS)
  • automatically retrieves the latest radar images from the NWS
  • automatically de-activates Watches and Warnings when their expiration date/time is reached, or they are cancelled, or they are superceded by a new Watch/Warning
  • can maintain a history of NWS radar images for later review
  • New!Earthquake alert feed from the USGS with customizable area of interest and magnitude threshold

Provides eXtreme Liability Control

  • audit logs keep track of every change made in the system
  • see exactly how the system looked at any point in the past with a feature called Flashback®
  • view a user-friendly history of changes that occurred in the system with the provided Timeline View
  • configurable duration of inactivity before NeXEO automatically logs out users
  • reports can be generated straight from the system as HTML, PDF, or XML
  • view the session activity of currently logged in users with 'Clickstreams'
  • complete history of logins and logouts available online
  • ability to query for the users logged in at some date in the past
